Scottish sasine info COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 19 February 11 00:36 GMT (UK) »
Would appreciate others opinion on whether I've got this transcription right.

'As also [?] the deceast John Hutton wryter in Hamilton son to umql. Thomas Hutton late baillie there brother to the deceast John Hutton maltman there guidsir to the sd Thomas Hutton...'

Is 'guidsir' , if that is what it says, short for godfather?  And if it is godfather, does it refer to Thomas Hutton late baillie being the godfather of the said Thomas Hutton?

Thanks, Mo

I'm not too sure but I think guidsir is grandfather.

Its hard to see the context from the snippet you have posted. I would like to see the whole paragraph.
This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

the dictionary of the Scots Language at http://www.dsl.ac.uk
confirms guidsir as grandfather.

Thank you Veeblevort and FreckNeale  :D  That's a new term for me (obviously  ::)).  The info confirms the family tree I'd pieced together too.
