Meadows family Titchmarsh
« on: Saturday 19 February 11 14:49 GMT (UK) »
I am looking primarily for a baptism for a Samuel Meadows  born about 1771 in Titchmarsh.   He died there in 1848 and raised all his family there.     He married a Sarah B.  there as well.

Any ideas about where to look?

Any mention of the Meadows family in the area pre 1800  also much appreciated.

Thanks Wendy.

Could it be the Samuel born 1766 in Little Oakley.  There is also a baptism in Warkton in 1766.

Both are in the surrounding areas of Titchmarsh.

I can give you more Meadows baptisms in that time and area if you wish.

Thank you so much for your reply  and for the information.

Anything you can give me at this time would be most welcome as I have come to a fullstop.
The whole family have been in Titchmarsh but I can't find any records of them being there before Samuel.

It helps when someone knows the area  so I would really appreciate if you could send me anything you have.  Is the Warkton one a little nearer than Little Oakley?

Thanks again Wendy.

Hello

Warkton is on the outskirts of Kettering and is only slightly nearer to Titchmarsh than Little Oakley which is on the outskirts of Corby

I will send you more information when I look at my disc.  Having lunch at the moment.

Hello again

Little Oakley with parents Samuel and Sarah:-

James  baptised 13th March 1763
Mary        "          30th June   1771
Samuel    "            6th July     1766
Thomas   "           27th Aug    1775

Death of Sarah wife of Samuel  25th Oct 1785.

Warketon with parents Joseph and Sarah:-

Sarah  baptised 24th July 1762  born12th June
Samuel    "           1st Jan  1766    "     2nd July

Death of Sarah wife of Joseph the farmer 21st July 1786

There is a marriage of a Samuel Meadows and Sarah White in Little Oakley 15th November 1759
Also there is a marriage of Joseph Meadows of Warkton and Sarah Brampton of Warkton married in Weekley 17th November 1754.  Took a little while for both couples to start a family don't you think? That is if they are the same ones who had the children.

Let me know what you think and if you want anymore names births, marriage, death. If you go by childrens names and wanted to pick which ones I would guess at the Little Oakley family going by the baptisms in Titchmarsh.

Hi ,  Thanks so much for sending me all that information and for going to all that trouble.

To be honest I don't know what to think.   "my" Samuel was born approx.  1771 I know this only according to IGI  which I am aware can be unreliable  but at the moment it is all that I have.

I feel that the two that you have found were born a little too early.  That is only my gut feeling.  He married in 1797  so he would of been 31.   Is that a little old for a first marriage?   Then again maybe he married before ?

Do you know if there are any Bishop's transcripts for Titchmarsh  that might give further information?

Thanks again Wendy.

Hello

The disc I have used is Alan Clarkes and it includes all of the bishop transcripts.  A lot of people on Rootschat have his discs.

I'll leave it up to you as to whether you accept the information I have passed on.  He may have been born out of the county or his baptism illegable. Or maybe his baptism missed when it was transcribed onto the disc.

You say he was married 1797.  May I ask where you got the information as on my marriage disc it says there is a Samuel Meadowes from Titchmarsh married to a Sarah Curtis otp in Brigstock 12th October 1798. No other Samuel wed about this time from Titchmarsh.

I think I had better shut up as I am going to get you in a worse muddle.

I know what its like hitting brick walls as I have come across a few and it can get very frustrating.

Hello again

I have just had a thought .

The Northamptonshire FHS are in Wellingborough museum tomorrow and looking at their website they have Titchmarsh buriels from 1813.

I am not sure as to whether I will have the time to pop in BUT if I do I will ask them to look up Titchmarsh buriels because maybe you are looking at the wrong Samuel as the bmd website doesn't state his death age in 1848.

This way we should get an idea as to when he was born.
