Morris butcher Abergele 1911
« on: Saturday 19 February 11 15:17 GMT (UK) »
With a lot of help I have finally found my great aunt Margret (Maggi), in the 1911 census she is a servant working for  a married coupe his christan name looks like Isane and his wife's Kate or Kat's.Surname Morris he is 41 the wife 35 years old the husband is from  St George Abergele I can not read his wife's birth place begins with a C

The address on the bottom right hand side reads ,I think Llanifair Abergele.
Would any one have any info on the shop the couple, there are two other people working there Hugh Edward Jones 21 from Abergele and John Edwards from Liverpool aged 16 .
Would anyone have any info on any of the above Maggi went to Pattagonia I am trying to find a marriage for her and now I know she was single still in 1911 it narrows it down a bit.
Thank you

Hi Valerie

Delighted to hear you have found Maggi and are a step further on!

Isaac Morris and his wife Kate (who was born in Portmadoc Caernarvonshire) lived in Glanrafon, Abergele. If you Google GLANRAFON, LL22 7BD you can go down the road as it is now but I'm pretty sure these houses are more recently built . There are only houses on one side as the River Gele runs down the other side, separated from the road by a wall. The end of the road joins the main road through the town.

Best wishes, Fairlane

Hello,
Thank you,it was exciting finding a bit more of Maggie, I did Google and saw a large hill in the distance and thought she mush have looked at that so thank you.

Can I ask advice, I have her birth certificate have her 1902 census and again 1911, and with my research think she could not have gone any later to Patagonia then 1915, I can't seem to find a marriage for her unless she got married in Liverpool where she did have a sister and brother and the ship would have sailed from Liverpool, but she had a big family in Abergele, and a very distent cousin thinks they had a fairwell party for her, its hard to check passenger lists without her married name, what you advise?

Another intresting think that came up on the google tip was a St Paul's a Methodist church, and they were Methodist's.

Any tips would be greatfull received.

Thank you once again hope you are well

North Wales BMD  www.northwalesbmd.org.uk  gives the following Margaret Davies marriages in the St Asaph Registration district but perhaps you have already had these checked out. Abergele came under the St Asaph registration district.

Margaret Davies & William Edward Jones
St Asaph, Civil Marriage Denbighshire North (Rhyl) STASAPH/40/E73  - 1914

Margaret DAVIES & William Ifor Jones
St Asaph, Civil Marriage Denbighshire North (Rhyl) STASAPH/40/E159 - 1916

Margaret DAVIES & Robert Thomas Williams
St Asaph, Civil Marriage Denbighshire North (Rhyl) STASAPH/42/E20 - 1916

There are several more with e.g. Margaret Lena Davies but as far as you know Maggi didn't have a middle name.

If she married in Liverpool tracking down the marriage will be very difficult but www.lancashirebmd.org.uk has quite a few. If you know which area her brother/sister lived in that could help to narrow it down.

I've still not found my John Edwards & Mary marriage in Cheshire!!!

Hello Val

I'm sure you know this but to keep cost down specify father's name so that any obviously wrong ones aren't sent to you. If you go to North Wales BMD you can print off application forms and then send with a covering letter to:

Superintendent Registrar, Rhyl Register Office, Morfa Clwyd, Marsh Road, Rhyl, Denbighshire. LL18 2AT

Thanks for the offer of help which is appreciated.
