Alfred Burt died 1923 *COMPLETED* Thank you all
« on: Sunday 20 February 11 17:14 GMT (UK) »
I have found an entry in FreeBMD which could be the Alfred Burt I am interested in. The death was registered in Hastings in the June quarter and the GRO reference is Vol 2b, No 13.

I would like to know whether this is the Alfred Burt who was born in the Isle of Wight, became a medical practitioner, married Amelia Mary Cowie Henderson in Camberwell in 1880, and lived for many years in Yapton, Sussex.

Can anyone suggest where I might find a death notice, an obituary or a gravestone?

Why not get the death cert and see if that has any clues? Eg registered by widow Amelia ...

Looks like Amelia M C Burt doesnt die till 1932, so she was still around.

Just testing the water to see if there's anything more informative around - such as digitised newspaper with summary of his life and career or similar. Buying the certificate would be a last resort ;)

Yapton is a long way from Hastings.  Did they retire there perhaps?    I see Amelia's death is registered on Bromley.  Have you looked to see where they are in 1911?     We can't do look ups but the index is free to search.

They may have done.

Westhampnett, which I understand to be the district which includes Yapton.

Looking at the 1901 census there is an Alfred Burt of the right age to fit with the death living in Battle.  Unless someone can come up with a burial record for you then getting the certificate may be the only way.  I assume you have looked for a will?  That is often a good way to find a death date.

Hi

The Alfred Burt Andrea found on the 1901,Reg District Battle, was married to Emily.Alfred was a General Labourer.
They lived in Hollington Old Lane.

I suspect the Death found Alfred in 1923 is the above Alfred.
Emily C died the following year.
I followed Alfred through all the census,he never left the area

On the 1891 & 1901,Alfred & Amelia are living in Hammersmith,Fulham Reg District.
On the 1881 Alfred is in the same area, stating he was married ,no signs of Amelia
Hope this helps

Kind Regards

In 1891 Amelia is visiting her in laws, John & Janet Burt at Godshill I.O.W.
As Amelia died in Bromley, Kent in 1932 there's a good chance that's where Alfred died at least that's a good place to start.
