William Falconer and Georgina Gilmour
« on: Tuesday 22 February 11 19:33 GMT (UK) »
My direct ancestors William Falconer and Georgina Gilmour married at Ayton, Berwickshire in 1806. They had many children and lived in the Canonmills district of Edinburgh for a long time, before moving to Tillicoultry. I think the Falconers came from Duns, but I've never been able to trace the origins of Georgina. Does anyone have any idea?

There is a death on Scotlands People for a Georgina Falconer. As she was 50 on 1841 census, would have been born 1786 to 1791. The certificate can be downloaded from SP.

Georgina Falconer, b 1787  d 1869 aged 82 in Tillicoultry, Clackmannan. It does not bring her up with the second name Gilmour.

The certificate would give her parents names... of course you may already have this info and it didn't help.

Terry

Added... this is definately her,  I tried same info as above with Gil*mour as second name and up it came.

   Terry,

I am very grateful for your help. The middle name is useful and I will investigate further. William and Georgina had many children, including Helen and Alexander, twins born in Edinburgh in 1811. Helen married Joseph McNaughton and their last child, Helen McNaughton was my grandfather's mother. Although I grew up in Lincoln, and have lived for many years in London, my mother was born in Edinburgh and all her ancestors were Scots. My grandfather's Davie ancestors came from Orkney and are said to be descended from Thorfinn the Skullsplitter, a tenth century warlord. I wouldn't bet on that being true, though! I am proud of my Scots roots and send my best wishes. If I can ever look up anything for you at the Family History Centre, let me know,
