Having read all your replies and the questions raised, I have studied the records and certificates I have. The following is info from the 1893 marriage certificate and the 1871 birth cert.
Marriage,  December 25th 1893 to Frances Maud West
William Faber 22  Bachelor  Clerk  Biggerstaff Rd
Father listed as Charles John Faber   Porter
Witnesses are Jane Faber and Nellie Harmer

Birth   October 18th 1871
William  Boy       Father, Charles Robert William Faber    Porter
                         Mother, Priscilla Faber formerly Moss
                         Living at   Godfrey Street  Stratford

I am leaning towards the suggestions that  I have the right birth  and wedding certificates for the same William Faber. I would greatly welcome your opinions based on the info above.  If this is correct then I can progress further backwards as I have contacts on other sites with pre-found info that will allow me to go back a few more generations.
Thank you all very much for the comments and suggestions and help.

I think you are correct. Your William is the son of Charles Robert William Faber as shown by the birth certificate and the information from the censuses. The marriage is also correct, just a slight mistake with his name. The witness looks like his sister in law. Perhaps his brother was the best man and that's why the mistake happened. Was his father dead by then? It could be that as Charles was a much older brother and if William had lived with him since a young boy, he considered him to be like a father.

Please be careful, you do need to check information for yourself and not assume that just because several people have it on their tree it is correct, it could simply be a case of copying from each other.

Good luck

Jan

Having got CRW Faber's death certificate, it shows he died from hanging (suicide) whilst being of an unsound mind in 1889.  Maybe William decided not to put him on his wedding cert for this reason.

Hi

There would be an inquest into the death, an account of which should appear in the local newspaper.
