I am also going to write to the authorities and tell them they have given my father the wrong medal. He should have the Burma Star with the  Pacific clasp, whereas they have given him the Pacific Star with the Burma Clasp. They will have to reissue to me.I'll absolutely make sure of that !

As I tried to explain on the other thread, 99% sure he was issued the correct medal.
What information makes you think it wasn't the right one?

Yes,that has already been canvassed Ruskie.According to my father's sevice records,he was involved with Burma very officially before he ever was with the Pacific.- so inarguably logically the medal issue authorities got it wrong,as they so often do,and I simply want to get it right in memory of my father's war service.
Thank you  very much for the links-I appreciate your time.

His service records neil. That is what ! It is how you phrased your comment that caused offence to my father's memory, and I was not going to have a bar of that !

The rosette is worn on the ribbon when not wearing ones medals.
It has the same significance as the clasp worn with the medal.

It basically shows the medal was awarded to a person who was in action in a war zone rather than a person in a support situation.
Cheers
Guy

Guy,thank you so much for explaining that.I absolutely understand now thanks to you.
Your assistance and time is much appreciated !

Care to share then? After all, if you're going to write to "the authorities" you're going to have to explain precisely why you believe the medal is wrong. I still think it's most likely your understanding is wrong rather than the medal (sorry but there it is).

Phipps, do you recall your father ever saying that he had been issued the wrong medals?

Does anyone know:
Apart from simply the order which they were granted, is there any difference (prestige wise) between the Pacific Star with Burma Clasp, and the Burma Star with Pacific Clasp?

Ruskie, good question. My father did not talk about the war or his medals.
I am going from his service records, and I believe I am absolutely right, not just 99% right as one member put it when he made his contribution to the sincere question I posed initially.
I look forward to being able to confirm the authorities got it wrong.
I am not looking for prestige for my father-I am just looking for accuracy in his service history as depicted in the medals and clasps.
There is a big difference in my mind as between having a medal and having a clasp.I would only be swapping one for another.I cannot have both so I am not looking for an extra medal.I just want the right medal and the right clasp so as to reflect the historical truth, that's all ,
Thank you for your time.
