GRahams in Camus info & BMD lookups
« on: Wednesday 23 February 11 21:04 GMT (UK) »
William and Isabella Graham left Camus in about 1846, following their marriage.  I can trace after this date but would appreciate anyone being able to help with earlier info.  I know that they died in Northumberland.

Do you know where and when the marriage took place? If if was a non-Catholic marriage the civil record shoul list fathers' names and occupations.

To find earlier records you'd need to know their religion so you can see what church records might survive.

I found the reference to Camus on the Family Search website.  I must assume that William and Isabella were non-conformists but as to where they married or dates, I am at a loss.  As I noted previously, they were already married when they came over to England in about 1846.  I looked on the 1911 census to try and find Grahams in Camus that I could trace back but only one family appeared, which seemed strange.  I do not know Isabella's maiden name.

Did they have any children in England? if so, the birth certificates would list mother's maiden name.

There are several records on LDS site for 'William Graham' born 'Camus' in Co. Tyrone but 4 of them are too young to be your William if he married in 1846 and one for 'male' Graham (born 1819)- why do you think your William Graham would have any connection to Camus. The LDS records usually list the registration or sub-registration district not the actual townland.

Camus is the name of a civil parish in Co. Tyrone (in Strabane Poor Law Union)- also a townland named Camus in that parish.
The Church of Ireland Parish name is Camus-Juxta-Mourne.

That's a vg suggestion to obtain the child's birth cert in order to find the mother's maiden name, I should have thought of that.  The census records I have read only state Ireland for Isabella and William, which is why I latched onto Camus, Co Tyrone, in the Family Search record.  Many thanks for your info. :)

Not all early records are survive and not all that do survive are actually available online so don't assume you might have found the correct person just because you've found something on LDS site.

LDS database has that marriage-
William Graham, age 30, son of John
married 2 May 1850 "Barr, Tyr, Ire"
Isabella Graham, age 22, daughter of George Graham
https://www.familysearch.org/#form=advanced-records

Graham is quite a common surname in Fermanagh/Tyrone and it would be quite easy to trace the wrong family.
