Wonder if someone kind soul could help me
My GGG Grandad George Davidson was Born in Scotland.I have the 1851 for whitby yorkshire and on it it says
George Davidson 56 gardener  Born Ayrshire Scotland
Jeane Davidson 55?  born Fifeshire
Havent a clue where in both shires wonder if someone could do me a look up for him in the parish records to find his parents and his marriage to Jeane or point me in the right direction to look.

If you search in the IGI at:
http://www.familysearch.org
you will see that there is only one record of a George DAVIDSON born in that approximate time period in Ayrshire.
George DAVIDSON born 26 Apr, christened 28 Apr 1790, Ayr Ayrshire, parents George DAVIDSON and Margaret CARNIE.
The IGI also shows that these parents, with Margaret recorded as CARNE, were married in Ayr in 1776 and had several children.

Whether this is your George, there is no way of knowing from the information you have given.  And remember, before the introduction of Statutory Registration (in 1855 in Scotland) many many children were not baptised.  Also many church registers did not survive, or may have survived but not have been transcribed into the IGI.

Unfortunately, George DAVIDSON is a far from uncommon name - as you will find if you search in the IGI for the marriage of a George DAVIDSON and a Jeane!

Do you have a complete list of George and Jeane's children?  This might help to pinpoint a likely date for their marriage.  Also, as both parents were Scottish, they may have following Scottish naming patters (1st son after father's father, 2nd son after mother's father; 1st daughter after mother's mother, 2nd daughter after father's mother, etc).

Hi Jap I only have the ages from the 1851 cenus to go on so far  I have for the kids

I figured they were married in Scotland in 1823/4 I`ll have to have a look at the 1841 census for whitby and see if I can confirm his birth year as 1795 (56 in 1851)
unless they lied about there ages or they guy who wrote it down was mutt and jeff.
will also relook at the IGI.

Unless you are lucky, the 1841 is unlikely to help you as ages for persons over 15 were meant to be rounded down to the nearest 5 ...

Also people were not so conscious of their ages back then - unlike today when we are forever having to state our date of birth etc.

Presumably they might have been married in either Scotland or England ...

If you search on the IGI for children of George DAVIDSON and Jean in Yorkshire, you will get a couple more children (an Elizabeth in 1827 and a Mary Jane in 1832) and you will get the precise birthdates and christening dates for the children.  They are at Cliff Lane Presbyterian, Whitby.  Those records go only to 1837 so Margaret is not there.
