Alfred Charles was born c1863 Brighton, Sussex. thier father.

Yes Alfred and William were probobly known by thier middle names.
Hector's middle name was Donald, his family here knew him as Don.
This being the case Alfred may have been the first born.
Sorry we dont know all thier dates.

Possiby?  :-\

Births Dec 1898
Ward  Harold William
W. Ham  4a 354

Quite a lot of children registered with similar names in similar time frames in similar area ... so hard to narrow down which might be yours.

Yes, Martin, it sound like your family are serial users of their middle names.  ;D

In trying to work out which child is first born, it would be worth knowing when Alfred and Matilda married. Do you have the marriage?

In the 1901 she is 36 and Alfred is 6. So 30 is fairly old in those days to be having a first child. Then after Alfred she managed to produce a lot more children and was aged 40 when Ivy was born. By no means impossible, but I would also be looking for children before Alfred in 1895 just in case.  :)

Matilda was born 1865, Alfred born 1863.

Yes, I worked that out from their ages on the 1901 census. When did they marry?

Of course the 1911 census will tell you how many years they've been married which will give you an indication on years to search. (assuming they did marry  ;))

Were both Alfred and Matilda still alive in 1911?
