Silas Edward MARTYN born abt 1818 St. Columb Cornwall

Hi Kris,

I have read from previous postings that you have researched  the Martyn Family of St. Columb Minor.
  Silas Edward Martyn, born about 1818(date from census documents) in St. Columb in Cornwall is the 2nd ggrandfather of my husband. I have not been able to find his Baptism.

His marriage entry to Mary Matilda Allin in Clapham, 7 May 1850, shows his father as Thomas Martyn, Surgeon, who I believe was Thomas Martyn (born 1774 In St Columb Minor, son of John Martyn and Gertrude Hiscutt) who married Sarah Darke. 

Originally confused, I have now sorted all this out.   I now have now found the info from Marianne Eastgate's research.  I am wondering about further info on the Martyn's of St. Columb Minor.

Thanks for your immediate response.  Those are the records which I looked at.  But it is Silas Edward's marriage entry that confuses me as it shows his father as THOMAS, surgeon.  It is Silas Edward b abt 1817/18 whose father is Thomas. 

I have just looked again at census records for Silas and they all list St. Columb as place of birth.  Maybe I have been checking the wrong parish?

have you found Thomas& Susanna  in 1841 or Silas with his parents ?

No, I haven't.  I believe my Silas  EM to be the nephew of Silas EM born 1779, through his older brother, Thomas, born 1774.

TY for your help.  I have spent most of today looking further and I found info in the postings which referred me to Marianne Eastgate's research.  It confirms that Silas Edward is the son of Dr. Thomas Martyn.  Thank you so much.   Barbara

My online pages don't include much on the Martyns, because I regarded them as covered by Marianne Eastgate's pages.  Looking at those again, they obviously rely heavily on the Martyn tree; they tend not to have children born after 1856/7, and have transcription errors - e.g. William Edward Martyn, a nephew of 1817 Silas Edward's, is made into two people, William and Edward.

Below is an extract from Marianne's info for 1817 Silas E's immediate family, with some notes and corrections. 1774 Thomas Martyn is the 6th of 8 children of John M & Gertrude Hiscutt - no.4 was my ancestress Mary (1770-1845), no.8 another Silas Edward (1779-1862).
[I've just counted on the Tree - it gives 53 grandchildren of John & Gertrude!]
