Master Mariner James Jones

According to census and certificates James Jones was born about 1790-1792 at Aberystwyth.  He died age 80 at Bangor December 2, 1870.

James married secondly to my 2xgreat grandmother Elizabeth Davies (nee Roberts) at the Cathedral Church at Bangor August 23, 1847.  I don't think there were any children from the marriage - at least none apparent on subsequent censuses.  James' father was named as Thomas Jones a farmer on the certificate.   

If possible I would like to learn more about his early life i.e. first marriage and any children.

Have you seen him on the Welsh Mariner's Index (whch gives the Kew reference to obtain his records)?

Yes thank you - I did find that reference a while ago.  At the time I hoped to make it back to the UK to look at the records in person but as that is unlikely now I may try writing to Kew to ask for a copy.
