Rendle/Randall family
« on: Friday 04 March 11 21:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I have an ancestor who was a mariner called variously Nathan Randall/Rendle/Rendles, he married Mary Gray in North Shields Tynemouth in 1791. In one of the baptism records for his children it gives his parish of origin as 'Kirkwell', a place I cannot find. I'm wondering if this may be Kirkwall? I've tried in vain to find any reference to him on my own but have noticed that there are literally thousands of Rendle records for Orkney suggesting they are originally from here, is there anyone who can help? He died aged 47 in 1811 giving his date of birth around 1764. I have no idea who his parents might be.

Thanks for reading, hope someone can help!

Regards,

Dan

Hi
I have some Rendall ancestors but no Nathans I'm afraid.
It is a very common Orkney surname as you say.

It would be worth your while, I think, to join the Orkney fhs. http://www.orkneyfhs.co.uk

They are a friendly helpful group and may very well be able to find your ancestor if you ask them to search their records for you.

Another handy site is  http://www.cursiter.com/
but I had a look and your man isn't there.

Good luck, Rian.

Hi,

Thanks for your help Rian, I'll have to try those two links, this Nathan seems to be a complete mystery, I think Orkney is right though as there are many Orkney mariners in North Shields at the time Nathan was there. There is a Rendall born in Evie and Rendle in the right year on IGI but it doesn't give the name of the child.

Anyway, thanks again for your help,

Dan
