from the Marriage Licences transcript....
John Fullwood of Luton, age nearly 20, son of Robert to marry Sarah Simons of Whipsnade age 20 "with guardian's consent" - dated 22 June 1780. Robert Fullwood of Luton stood surety. NB The marriage took place at Whipsnade on that date.

Shows how careful you need to be. I'd got this John down as the one bap 1761 at Meppershall, son of Thomas, who later lived in the Old Kent Rd. Yet the licence puts him as son of Robert. And I don't have a clue as to who Robert was! He must have been 20 years older than the Robert bap in Meppershall in 1758. Unless the licence has got confused and John was son of Thomas, with his elder brother Robert standing as surety. That's more likely

David,  I had just found an entry for Indem/Settlement at Southill in 1767 for Thomas, Sarah, Elizabeth & Charlotte in the Beds Poor Law Papers index produced by the BFHS. The settlement cert in Terry's thread is dated 1770 & for St Mary's Hitchin. So has Terry got this cert from Beds Archives.

John,
just got a reply from Bedfordshire Archive and it does confirm that Thomas was seeking settlement from Warwick to Southill in 1767. From there he sought settlement in Hitchin in 1770.

Thanks,

Terry
