Joseph Turnbull of Kirklinton *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 07 March 11 04:53 GMT (UK) »
Seeking help to find the parish record of Joseph Turnbull birth.

From census records he was born at Kirklinton about 1821.

I have seen posible records which say he was born 5 Dec 1819 to Robert and Mary at Kirklinton.

Other records show him born 24 Nov 1823 to Joseph and Mary at Kirklinton.

Family Search does not have Kirklinton on their images at this time, (bother).

FreeReg has no record of Joseph Turnbull at all.  :(

Could any kind person in the area please advise which is correct, or is there another possibility?  ???

Is it the one who went to Blackburn?

If so, he has a brother Adam 23 in 1851, suggesting http://tinyurl.com/6d42vo4
also brother Samuel 19, http://tinyurl.com/6e3wxr2

Geoff

Yes, he is the one who went to Blackburn. He married there, and spent the rest of his life there, as far as I can determine.

If it is possible to verify that the 5 Dec 1819 to Robert and Mary, it will ease the mind greatly.

Thank you for that information which I will follow up

A marriage certificate ought to show his father's name.  As he appears to have married at the Blackburn Register Office (or Catholic church) http://tinyurl.com/6322okr , you are unlikely to find any details of the marriage online.

To order from Blackburn you must download the form and send by snail mail.

Alternatively, you can order from here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
quoting these reference numbers
Marriages Mar 1849
STOTT    Margaret         Blackburn    21   41
TURNBULL    Joseph         Blackburn    21   41

I see from 1861 census that Margaret was from Otterburn, part of Kirkby Malham parish http://www.kirkbymalham.info/KMI/otterburn.html
so this looks appropriate

On the Otterburn website, you'll find Margaret STOTT in the 1841 census :)
