yes thought that   just one thing   margaret a   daughter married charles frost and on the 1911 census it says margarets sister is living with them called esther kirkpatrick age 25 in 1911    but she has not shown up on any of these census

the only one i can find is esther kirkpatrick age 9 born carlisle on the 1891 census daughter of john kirkpatrick age 42(born carlisle)
this john kirkpatrick appears on the 1851 census living in botchergate (down as a nurse child) living with a james and mary noble.
maybe this john was a brother of your maxwell and was given away(adopted) to the noble family
other than that i can see nothing?

could be                  it was throwing me a bit as charles frost married margaret  a kirkpatrick born 1873 daughter of maxwell and on the 1911 charles frost and wife margaret living 4 peel street carlisle also margarets sister esther age 25

this is 1881 census                   maxwell kirkpatrick age 41 wife mary age 37   children joseph 11 margaret a 8  mary jane 5  and john 3   living 80 union street carlisle

i take it their son john aged 3 in 1871 must have died
as they have another son in 1881 named john aged 3
