Trying to find out about my father

Hi All
I am trying to find information about my father.
He was born in Llanrwst.
He joined up in 1939 and was in the/a BEF soon after.
He was a Sapper in the R.E. 157th Rlwy Con Coy.
I am told that he had shrapnell wounds to the leg and neck but I'm unable to find any detail of this.
Sadly he passed away in 1981 and I am embarrassed to admit I knew nothing of his history in the war.
I do have a copy of his records from Glasgow but I am having some difficulty fitting the pieces together and also understanding a lot of the writing.
All replies are also most welcome for their invaluable information.
If anyone can help me I would be extremely grateful.

It would help if you could let us know your father's christian name, plus the place he died and age at death.

Do you seek the details of his family, or is it his war service history you are interested in?

My father,
William John George Barlow,
was Born: 28th July 1916
and sadly Died: 7th May 1981 (aged 65 and just days away from retirement:] ).
I am trying to find out as much as possible about his war time experiences.
I do have his war records from Glasgow but I am having difficulty reading some of the information and at the moment there seems to be some big gaps between being in the/a B.E.F. in 1940 and being in NWE (France, Belgium, Holland Germany) in 1944-45.
It is possible that shrapnell injuries could account for the gaps but I don't know how to confirm this as the records don't seem to.
I would also like to find out what he did in the B.E.F. and in NWE and where he got to and what action he might have experienced.
Any help or info. would be very much appreciated

Hello Ady B,

There are few online resources which will give information on your father's service in WW2.

My view is that you would be better to post this on the Armed Forces Board as there are mines of military information on there.

Another way to find out more is to research the regiments and units he was in as there would be books on them. There are usually regimental museums which can assist with queries too.

I think Jo was meaning the Armed Forces Board on this site, further down the main page.  Scroll down nearly to the bottom of the page, and put your request in there. There are some very good RC's who might be able to help you.
