Pine/Pyne/etc.
« on: Thursday 21 April 05 02:28 BST (UK) »
Hello all, I am building a one-name study for Pine/Pyne/etc.. This surname has Devon origins, and until the mid-1800's was predominantly in the West Country (Devon, Cornwall, Somerset). I have a complete extraction of the 1881 census, as well as large files for the 1851 and 1891 censuses. I also have a growing database for the St. Catherine's birth, death and marriage indices. In addition, I have a copy of a book written in 1917, which researches the origins of the name back to the Dark Ages. I welcome all queries, and gratefully accept any references, however small.
Thanks,
Darren Pine

3   F   ii.   Mary PYNE  was born in 1880 in London Silvertown, Middlesex, England.

Have since updated my database; posted under the Devon listings, as Pine/Pyne is originally a Devon name. All queries/info welcome.

Scurr Lady these are on my tree as well. I did put a post on here about that family but it seems as if its gone into outer space. If you want to PM me we can perhaps discuss further

Have you been in touch with a Jeremy Pyne? He has done a lot of research on this line, both in London and Somerset.
Sorry I didn't reply before!
Regards, Darren

I have a PYNE--Samuel A., born c1838.

The earliest record I've found for him was a 1867 marriage in NS Canada.  His address at the time was the HMS Duncan (a Royal Navy Ship) docked in the Halifax, NS Shipyard.

On that record he lists his parents as Michael & Mary and claims he was born in the United States.

He m/1  Julia Ann SHORTEN and had 1 daughter Mary Elizabeth(?)  b1868 in NS.
He m/2  Martha LOBAN (in NB, Canada) and had issue Mary Helena b1871, Samuel Francis b1872,  William Frederick b1874, Joseph Dickens b1876 and Thomas John b1878.

He died in NB Canada in 1878.  A later obit for son Joseph Dickens, suggests he was "from Ireland."

I have followed all the children with the exception of Samuel Francis, who likely died young but I have not located burial/death information,  he otherwise seems to have disappeared.

Similar to Daren I have been researching Pyne families for some years now and hve a big collection o Pyne trees, focusing on England rather than those lines descended from emigrants.
Happy to hear from anyone who thinks I may be able to help.

Jeremy
