COMPLETED - THANK YOU Newcastle Chronicle - 26 May 1905 - Richard Freeth
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 17:22 GMT (UK) »
My 2GTGF Richard Freeth died on 24 May 1905. I have his Death Certificate and it shows he died at 27 Eden Street in Wallsend from Empysema. His death was registered by an Elizabeth Carr who was present at the death and her address is given as 25 Eden street. I would really appreciate it if someone could look-up the Newcastle Chronicle of 26 May 1905 in the hope that the entry may indicate who she was. I realise she may just have been a neighbour but I'm hoping there will be something in the entry that tells me one way or another.

Thank you very much to anyone out there who can help me.

Steve can you see a marriage to Mary Ann,after 1890.

I can find his first marriage to Margaret,1872 and her death is registered Tynemouth  September 1890 aged 35,
it does state in 1891 census Richard is a widow in Wallsend with his children,1901 it has hiim married to Mary Ann,

Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for looking up the death notice for Richard Freeth - I really appreciate it. Sad that it doesn't let me know who the Elizabeth Carr was who registered his death. Maybe it was just the next door neighbour after all. It does seem from the notice though that he did remarry after losing his wife Margaret Small on 09 July 1890 so it has proved very helpful.

Once again, thanks a lot for your help.

Julie

Gillian,

I can't find a marriage either and have done all sorts of variations on the name.

Maybe he never actually re-married?

Perhaps he and Mary Ann lived together as man and wife without ever marrying?

It could be that we are making an assumption about the info on the 1901 census. Just because there is a Richard Freeth and a Mary Ann Freeth boarding at the same house in Clyde St, Wallsend and they are both started as married, it doesn't necessarily mean they are married to each other (although I must admit it is the likeliest scenario). Their status in relation to the head of the house is stated as 'Boarder' but not their status to each other.
