William Richards, b 1819, Doward Hereford.
« on: Friday 11 March 11 19:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello. Does anyone have any information on William Richards, born 1819 at Doward, Herefordshire?
On the 1841 census he is living at Doward, with wife Ester and children Sarah, 1833, Thomas 1835, and Ester 1840.
I don't know how much of the Parish registers is available for Hereford, but maybe there could be some information regarding their parents or marriage there? I would be very grateful for any help :)

The IGI has 2 extracted baptism records of a William Richards

1.  8.8.1816 Marstow, father Richard Richards mother Elizabeth

2. 9.5.1819 Brampton Abbots,  father James mother Ann.

Pre 1837 marriages do not give parents names.

Looks like he may have been a bit older than the census suggests.  There is a William Richards baptised 19th Jan 1812 Whitchurch Parish Church (The Doward chapel wasn't built at this time?) No fathers name given, Mother Elizabeth Richards

RCB, Thank you for that. I had suspected he was probably older than the age given on the census, given the birth dates of his children. Thats excellent! Many thanks....Jill :)

Hi Jill,
Sorry if I am going over what you already have info on;
(if so it still may be help to someone else in the future who googles!)
William RICHARDS Married Esther PRICE, 01 May 1832, Whitchurch, Hereford, England
(Extracted IGI)

Some has a Submitted Record naming William Richards, Christened 24 Nov 1808, Whitchurch Marrying Hester Price 01 May 1832, Whitchurch
They have a Emma 1843 as a Child;

1851 Census
Doward, Whitchurch,
Herefordshire
HO107/2444/439/12
John WILLIAMS, 30, Head, Mar, Lime Burner
Easther, 41, Wife, Mar
Thomas RICHARDS, 17, Stepson,Unm, Ag Lab
Emma Richards, 8, StepDaug, Scholar
Anney Sophie Richards, 5, StepDaug
Louisa Richards, 1, StepDaug
All born Whitchurch
Kids are indexed as Beards but image is Richards
Lots of dittos and a bit confusing.

Christenings, Whitchurch to WILLIAM/HESTER (some Ester) Richards
SARAH, 28 February 1833
THOMAS CHARLES, 22 May 1835
WILLIAM HENRY,29 May 1837
ANN SOPHIA, 02 August 1846
(Source Familysearch Pilot)

I cant find Emma or Louisas Christening.

John and Esther seem to have their Marriage Reg Dec 1848, Monmouth,
26 118
So Louisa may be their Child together.

Trish :)

Trish, Thank you so much! I did have them on the 1851 census, but I didn't have a  date for  either of Esther's marriages.  This isn't my tree....I'm doing a tree for a friend. I'm in South Wales, so getting info from Hereford is a bit tricky!
These are definitely the right Richards, so my friend will be really chuffed when I show her what we've got. Incidentally, is Doward a little village or a town? I know she will want to go there!............many thanks, Jill  :)
