Looking for ANY info on Samuel Barlow

Hi,

I'm looking for any info anyone can find on Samuel Barlow who was the Mayor of Middleton between 1892 and 1893.

I have established that he was born about 1825 in Ashton-under-Lyne and married a woman called Hannah Grainger in 1847. He lived in Thornham, Lancs until at least 1891 and owned a Bleach Works.

After he was Mayor of Middleton, he seems to just disappear.

Can anyone help? The info I've found is sketchy to say the least so ANY info at all would be greatly appreciated!!

I had problems finding it too. It was someone on Rootschat who found it for me. They married in Manchester.

I can only find ONE Samuel Barlow and Hannah Barlow on the 1881 census ..and it looks quite possible , but....he was born in Medlock Vale ,Lancashire..
it has to be him...living in THORNHAM

Hannah Granger was babtised in St Elphins ,Warrington29th July 1827
daughter of William Granger and Mary...

Samuel Barlow was Mayor of Middleton from 9th November 1892 until 20th May 1893...that`s only 6 months...so...if he didn`t resign ...he was either taken ill (in which case I presume the Deputy Mayor would take over Samuels duties )..or..he died in May 1893.....6 months as Mayor doesn`t fit...so I think maybe he died 1893...let me check...allan

Allan is right on the death 

From the British Library newspaper archive:

There are two short pieces about the proving of Samuel's will in August 1894; one of them gives date of death as 28 May 1893.
It says he lived in Stakehill which you already know; also at Shindda Hir, Little Orme, Llandudno. The will was proved in the Manchester registry. The second article (from the Liverpool Mercury Tues Aug 14 1894, issue 14544) goes into quite a bit of detail about the will and beneficiaries, as the estate was a large one valued over £29,000. There are two nieces mentioned; Hannah Elizabeth Bolton wife of William Bolton, and Elizabeth Mills of Castleton

There are several other short newspaper mentions in the years before this reporting on Samuel's great success in horticulture, winning prizes at various floral and agricultural shows.
