Researcher for Hire?
« on: Monday 14 March 11 11:21 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if there is any person happy to do some further research on my McGrath line from Cork? If so how much it would cost.

Cant help you with the specifics on a researcher, but you will need to have details to start any Irish research, such as location and parish etc.  This is usually established by researching the details of more recent generations wherever your particular McGrath family ended up..rather than in Ireland

see :

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

Steven,

Have sent you a PM with details of the researcher I used in 2009.
Won't post it here, as it's a commercial site!  ;D

All I can say is that he provided information for me, at a reasonable cost, that might have been hard for me to find otherwise.

Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you for all your help.
I have information that takes the line back to around 1840. It has been gathered from family members and also some research conducted by Debretts Peerage some years ago.

Which parish do your McGrath family come from ?

If they were RC and from South West County or City then it would be worth checking for records of them on www.irishgenealogy.ie (free website)  More records are due to be added later this year.

St. Finn Barr's is in the diocese of Cork & Ross. I'm not certain but I think that may already be included on IrishGenealogy - although named 'South Parish' on that system.

There may be further records to add yet, but the original baptism details for the parish go back to 1756, and marriages to 1775 - but with a number of gaps. See Cork City RC Parishes  (Irish Times)

I have the same question as the original poster, Steven. I have pretty much found the people I am interested in, but would now need a good professional researcher to find some deeds, wills etc. to tie up some loose ends, which are most likely available in Dublin. I have not the time and know-how to visit Dublin and find my way around in the various archives.
KGarrad, can you PM me with the info about the researcher you used?

Maria
