Thank you so much for all your helpful information. I didn't realise that parish records didn't have mothers' maiden surnames so I guess I do need to obtain a Birth Certificate in order to determine it definitively.

Thanks for all the info you have given which I'm sure will come in very helpful. I'm very grateful to everyone who has taken time to respond to my query.
