Tullis birth in 1892/93 Lanark, Ontario

Hello,
I'm looking into something that may be a little peculiar about a Lillian Ritchie Tullis born around 1893. Her marriage certificate to George A Weatherall states that her parents are Sinclair Lockhart Tullis and Annie Menzies and that she was born in Glen Tay, but a birth record I found for a Lilian Tullis born in Lanark, Ontario says her parents are Thomas Tullis and Rachel Richie (note the Richie that is also part of Lillian's name).

Glen Tay and Lanark are very close and so it doesn't seem like a coincidence that someone by the same name was born so close and around the same age.

Does anybody have any information or leads I can work on?

Have you found either Sinclair Lockhart Tullis or Thomas Tullis in the 1901 or 1911 Canada Census?

**ADDED - Oops, I can see that this tree won't clear anything up for you!!  They have Lillian Tullis, with parents Sinclair and Ann, born on 19 Oct 1892 in Killaloe, Renfrew.  BUT - the Lillian who was born on 19 Oct 1892 has parents Thomas and Rachel.   You can see the registration on the Family Search site for free (I looked on Ancestry at the actual image and the parents are definitely listed as Thomas and Rachel)

Everything I have is pointing to Sinclair and Annie (except the birth record) but they were married in May of 1892 (same year she was born).  I'm pretty sure the family was very conservative (considering what they're descendents are like) so it would be surprising to me if they were pregnant before getting married. (Was it all that common anyway?)

Stranger still, I can't find anyone by any of the names on either the 1901 or 1911 Canadian censuses.  Though I did find Lillian as listed with the hospital she was working at in 1911.

I've been reading, however, about the possibility of changing names (on birth certificates) to cover up the whatever secrets they may have.  Though I'm not convinced that's what happened here.

HMM - you really do have a mystery here!

I can see the marriage certificate AND the birth registration on Ancestry.  The parents don't match - and that is certainly odd. 

How about this for a long shot?  What if her parents were the people listed on her birth record, and then they died - leaving other relatives to raise her??

There are many Tullis records on the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid site.  Most of them are from Lanark:

The marriage record for Sinclair Lockwood Tullis and Annie Menzies shows that Ann's mother was Susan Ritchie.  Another Ritchie connection - but with this set of parents.  Ann and Rachel may well have been related

I agree with runkitty looks as though she was either adopted by family and not told of her true parents, or she didn't know she should give her true parents on a document and wanted to give credit to the ones who actually raised her. Back then, full truths on documents weren't very strictly adhered to it seems, as we have found on here many times...

having said that, Has anyone seen proof of the deaths of the alleged parents? I can't find them yet on a census, or a marriage of parents have you?
