John Nesbitt Fox , Dublin ?
« on: Thursday 17 March 11 14:13 GMT (UK) »
 John Nesbitt Fox
Hello. can anyone help find this man and his friends.

I have some details from his will dated 8 dec 1821 , proved at London 20th August 1823 .
John Nesbitt Fox was a Lieutenant , paymaster and quarter master between at least 1815 and 3 May 1821 when he made his will.
He married an Elizabeth Jones from Wrexham Wales and seems to have lived in England. . Both familes seemd to be quite well off.
I can find nothing at all about him , no birth, marriage or death apart from an marriage entry on IGI 1791 that could be his parents.

Marriage of a John N Fox to Mary Nesbitt.

John N. Fox Pedigree Birth: Of Dublin, , Leitrim, Ireland

Yes the Nesbitts were well off, 3 brothers came to Ireland from Scotland, one settled in Donegal, one in Leitrim and the other in Cavan. Horatio Nelson's wife was a Nesbitt and they are connected to Sir Walter Scott (forget how!).

Don't have much on the Leitrim lot but will see if I can chase them down..

Frances Herbert Nisbet married Horatio Nelson 22nd March 1787 on Isle of Nevis, King William IV gave her away, no children. Lady Nelson died 6 May 1831  (P.188 Nisbet of that ilk, by Robert Chancellor Nesbitt, London: J. Murray, 1941.)

The book (Nisbet of that ilk) just mentions a bit on the Nesbitts in Leitrim and Donegal, nothing for who you are after. (Pages 195 to 200) but it does mention that these are covered in another book "History of the family of Nisbet or Nesbitt in Scotland and Ireland" by Alexander Nesbitt and Cecelia Nesbitt of Lismore.

But there is a more recent book by Reverend David Nesbitt that covers them too and possibly easier to order. I only have a few pages of that book to cover one marriage for my tree.

I can send you Pages 195 to 200 if you PM me with your email address.....

I now know that JNF `s father was  probably John Newcomon Fox.

In the will, there is an entry which someone  else has trancribed as

“ In the above will I have called my father John Nesbitt Fox instead of John Newcomen Fox”

=====================================================
Source : Henry Farrar`s index of Irish Marriages  from Walkers Hiberniain Magazine. 1771 to 1812
FOX. John Newcomen  =  Nesbitt Mary , both of the City of Dublin, May 1791.

Possibly one of this lot

Brabazon Newcomen, of Dublin, son of Jane Lady Newcomen, is named as a trustee and cousin of Frances Fox, née Herbert, in her will dated 1729 or 1741, which also mentions her cousin Charles Lambert and children, including Sophia and
Mary, and her god daughter Frances Newcomen.

Would there be an index of Irish wills, JNF`s Dad would have died after 1821  and would probably still be living in Dublin.
Another puzzle is , where did JNF and Elizabeth Jones marry, it wasn`t in her home town of Wrexham, and I can find no trace on IGI.

I can`t find much on Irish records  at all.  ???

Hi. In your search did you discover whether John Nesbitt Fox had any children as I'm currently working up my family tree?
