Mesida Daniel
« on: Thursday 17 March 11 21:02 GMT (UK) »
I have found Mesida (b1815) with husband William Daniel (b1819) and their three sons on the 1851 census, all living at 5 Pelly Street Neath. I cannot find them on the 1841 or 1861, and neither can I find deaths for William & Mesida.

Any help most welcome.

Hello,

Could this be the boys with a grandfather perhaps?

1841  HO107; Piece 1421; Book: 24;   Folio: 37; Page: 7

As there is a quite an age gap between William (13 yrs) and David (2 yrs) in 1851, is Mesida a 2nd wife?

Thanks Haywood for reply.

It could very well be as the age difference has bothered me, as of yet I have been unable to find a marriage but the Mesida name came from a cousins family bible. The only marriage I have found is for a William Daniel and Letitia Davies 14/10/1832 at Cadoxton Neath, so perhaps you are correct in thinking Mesida is 2nd wife.
Back to the drawing board.

Many Thanks.

There is a birth of David Daniel at Narberth in 1850 (Mar Q) which could be the son of William and Mesida. If this was the correct certificate, you would find David's mother's maiden name.

I knew I was going to do something else last night- look for that birth  ::)

The birth would be a great help. I had thought that the name was misheard or mistranscribed but if it is also in a family bible as well as the census then it is perhaps mistranscribed in 1841  :-\

There is a death of a Letitia Daniel in March quarter 1841 Neath vol 26 pg 262 so that may explain 1841 census.

Here is a possibility for Thomas in 1861 - to verify this you would have to chase up certificates though.
1861 RG9; Piece: 4083; Folio: 35; Page: 14

he has the same occupation as William in 1851 and is born Cadoxton where Letitia and William were married.

There is a Medilda Conn (don't think that is the surname from census) in 1841- nearest I can see to Mesida  :-\

Thank you both Heywood and Morganllan for your input.

William's son, also William (b1833) named one of his Daughters Letitia ( from family bible) so it looks as the two oldest boy's are from the marriage to Letitia, with both your help its now beginning to become clearer.

Thanks.

West.

Not sure whether you have the Christening of William b1833?
Christened at on 1st July 1833 at St Cattwg Church, son of William and Letitia Daniel, living at Crownworks, Father a Copperman.

However, according to LDS extracted records this William was born 28th June 1833 but it says he died 19th July 1835  :-\

If we have the right people, the next child was called Thomas and then perhaps, as they wanted a William, they called the following son William?
