Address in Ardrishaig, 1851
« on: Friday 18 March 11 10:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello all
I've traced my ancestor Daniel Bell to Ardrishaig, and in the 1851 census he is shown at "G.W.McDonald's (land?)"  He is a grocer and there with his wife, two girls and a servant.
Can anyone help me to identify where this McDonald's Land is, please ?

Thanking you
Grahame

Cant be of much help Im afraid, I find that many of the addresses on census records are very vague and dont really relate to much in the real world at all.  My initial thought would be that McDonald is the name of the landowner in the area and they simply lived on his land.  Is there a McDonald on the preceding census page that looks like he might have a lot of land and money.  If you can find him you might be able to find out more about the land he owned and where it was.

Doig - Fife

Lands in towns in Scotland are buildings with several tenants. This will be a building in Ardrishaig, there must be a Heritage Society there for this info'     Skoosh.
