Demme is also German. I am finding so much misinformation on both sides of the family that I am losing my identity! (just kidding I know who I am. LOL)

:) I know what you mean! As you find yet another person whose DNA you carry, and all the names that there are in your ancestry it's a strange feeling.  For me I began to think I was just related to absolutely everybody in the west country of England! And it does show us that the identity we carry is illusion-like.

I do hope you manage to find something.  If you ever decide to go to India it might be an idea to contact an Angli-Indian organisation beforehand to see if you can get any assistance.  I had to do some research in Hyderabad, India (where my father was born) but thankfully all our family records were in the cathedral there so I knew where to start looking.  Best of luck!

Looking at that name "Keiloff"

There was a Kohlhoff or Kohloff family in Madras. Several generations of missionaries.

Interesting. I always wondered if the spelling of the name had been changed sometime.

Do you have the marriage certificate for Olga and Leonard? If so who were the witnesses and does it show an occupation for Nicholas Demme?

If you don't have the certificate you can obtain a copy from the UK authorities : Army marriages Bangalore 1918 page 167

I note that there is a submitted tree on Ancestry which has Olga's father as Karl Nicholas Demme.

A certificate will only be obtainable if they were British subjects in India.  If they were part of the Anglo-Indian community you'll need church records.

what is a link to that? My grandfather was a British soldier so there should be records. One of my uncles that was born in India could never get a copy of his birth certificate, just the baptisimal record.

My mother and I are very grateful for all your help.
