i am looking for a street tht i think doesnt exsist anymore. in the 1861 census it is listed as what lloks like town street.

the census ref is 9   2423.

i am wondering where this street is now? i live in mansfield and was born in mansfield, but im not great on places names and history.

if it helps the family were all framework knitters?

Well I don't know Mansfield Woodhouse well, but....

You could look on http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html

Enter the coordinates 453838, 363310
Or search for Mansfield Woodhouse

And click on one of the first old maps - I just tried the 1879-1885 one.

At this time it looks like there was only really one main road through Mansfield Woodhouse. I could be wrong but I think that is probably 'Town Street'.

There is (or was) a town street. It was renamed Station Street, which today comes of the A6075.

many thanks for your help. interesting that town street became station street, as i travel down station street a fair bit and am always intrigued by the old building down there with the windows all along the top. i just googled it and came up with the very building that i am on about and it was a frame work knitters cottage!
