my ancestors are listed on the 1841 and 1851 censuses in st helier.
on the 1841 census, it states:
that they were robert benham ( spelt beuhaun on the 1841 census) age 44, a tobacconist living in broad st, st helier and his wife elizabeth age 35 ( she is also known as esther elizabeth/ eliza), and their children philip, elisha, charles, william and robert.
on the 1851 census they are living at district 9, folio no. 210 page 6, the occupants are listed as :
robert benham 52 born in st helier, esther E benham 47 born in st helier, francis benham 19 born in st helier and william benham 17 born in st helier.
their son charles is living in st helier in 1851 with his own wife and family.
in 1871, son charles is living in lambeth in london with his wife and children, and also his widowed mother - esther elizabeth/eliza.
charles is also living in london on the 1861 census.
esther elizabeth/ eliza benham is not living in,london on the 1861 census. i would like to know whether she was living in st helier still in 1861. perhaps after robert benham's death she went to live with her son.
