Manners
« on: Wednesday 23 March 11 16:24 GMT (UK) »
Firstly I must apologise for the error I made previously, I do understand the rules and will make sure I adhere to them, thank you. None of the names below are of living people.
I have spent many hours at 1901censusonline and freebmd and I think I'm on the right path but of course there is always one gap, frustrating.
Charles Raymond Manners 4 May 1930 Swansea, mother Hilda Rees = Confirmed.
Hilda Rees married Frederick W Manners Dec Qtr 1921 Swansea 11a 2177, certificate ordered.
Frederick W Manners then appears on the 1911 Census, his mother Mary Jane James married to an Arthur James in Swansea.
In the 1901 census she appears as Mary Jane Manners RG 13/2938 as a widow, Frederick is her youngest child. This seems to tie in that she was widowed by the census of 1901.
Then I went looking for deaths of Manners and found only one that seemed obvious to me,
Frederick Henry Manners died age 28 Sunderland 3rd Q 1901 10a 443. This seems to tie in that she was widowed by the census of 1901.
But!!! I have trawled the marriages for him from 1891 through to 1896 2nd Qtr and cannot find anything.
I pick Frederick H up in the 1891 census.
I cannot make a link with Mary Jane ? marrying a Manners. Can help connect the dots or educate me on where else to try for the records.
I have thought of ordering Frederick Henry Manners death certificate but not if I should if I can't find his marriage?
Many thanks.

Here's Mary second marriage and Frederick birth entry

MANNERS, Mary Jane
1902  Jul-Aug-Sep Ludlow
Volume No:  6A  Page No:  1276
JAMES, Arthur

Birth FreeBMD
Sep qtr. 1899 Straford vol 6d page 698
Frederick William MANNERS

I see you have ordered the marriage certificate of Frederick William to Hilda, that will give you his father's name & occupation and may help to find the marriage of ? MANNERS to Mary Jane ?

As Mary was shown as born in Shropshire on 1901c
there is this marriage on FreeBMD
Jun qtr. 1894 Atcham
names on same page
George Thomas MANNERS and
Mary Jane FARRINGTON
 ???

Let us know when you receive the marriage certificate of Frederick and we may be able to help further - if you have had no luck tracing the marriage of Mary Jane :)

Hi

Looks like Ladyhawk has found the marriage :)

Familysearch has the christenings of Edith Emily, Elsie May and frederick William as shown on the 1901 census. Parents George Thomas Manners and Mary Jane, Stratford on avon. But.... there is also a George Thomas Manners chrsitened Birmingham mother Mary Jane 1902. Whether this is their child I am not sure.

Hello Evie

I was looking to see if I could find a George Thomas Manners on the 1901 census to eliminate him

Had just left the PC to go and cook some tea, came back and you have found their christenings - thank you :)

Is there something I'm missing on how to make both parties to a marriage appear together?

Is there something I'm missing on how to make both parties to a marriage appear together?

I used FreeBMD, saw that Mary Jane was born in Shropshire so thought she was possibly married there

searched FreeBMD using following
surname of MANNERS,
spouse first name Mary Jane
then pressed the find button

there are two other names on that page but Evie has found the christenings of the children with parents named as George Thomas MANNERS & Mary Jane, so I think that marriage is probably a match  :)

You will know for certain when the marriage certificate arrives of Frederick & Hilda  :)

Mmmm my first reply to Ladyhawk hasn't shown up?
I did pick up a Edith Emily Manners in the 1911 census staying with grandparents by the name Farrington. When I tried following this lead I got stuck, could be that I'm very new at this  :)
Looks like I have been following the wrong clues .....
How do you manage to find the info so quickly, I sit for hours trying to trawl through many many pages.
