Mochrum, Wigtownshire Burials
« on: Friday 25 March 11 13:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, I'm wondering how I find burial records for the Mochrum area, Wigtownshire.  My ancestor Owen Burns died on the 5th June 1868.   Any help with pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.  Thanks! :-\

Thanks very much for your quick response.  I have a copy of the death record you refer too.  I was more curious as to how I find out where he was buried.

Owen Burns is my Dad's Great, Great Grandfather and Dad is going to Scotland in a few weeks.  As Owen was the first of our ancestor's to go to Scotland from Ireland I thought it would be great to find his grave.

Thanks again!

Hi Nici
best place to start checking would be the local church yard check on the link below but keep in mind that not all graves are marked by a headstone, so depending on how wealthy the family were they may not have been able to afford one
this may be of use

See the Dumfries and Galloway Family History Society have a Mail Order service.
Many booklets of graveyard surveys are listed at
http://www.dgfhs.org.uk/publications.asp
Mochrum Memorial Inscriptions priced at 4.00 UKpounds plus postage costs.

Sy
Update:  Forget the Mochrum booklet, it will not help you.
There are some Burns family members listed but NOT your Owen Burns ancestor.
That doesn't mean he isn't there though because many burials are not marked by a stone.
Does your certificate locate the place of death as Mochrum Parish?
Adam : Criggie : Davidson : Freeman : Jeamie : Lownie : Mackie : Pittendreigh : Ritchie
in Kinneff, Bervie, Benholm & St. Cyrus Parishes

Hi Johnner Kid, Yes the death certificate does state the location as Parish of Mochrum in County Wigtown.  Thanks  :)
