1911 Missing Family (ABBOTT)
« on: Saturday 26 March 11 13:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I'm not looking for a look up as such, more advice than anything.

I have been desperately searching for a family in the 1911 census but to no avail. I have them in 1901 and I have records of them after 1911 (i.e. marriages etc) However, I'm getting no hits for them on the 1911 census.

I was wondering if anyone can give me any tips on how to find out what may have happened to them.

Regards
Arkie...

whats the surname - prone to mis-spelling?  1911 is awash with mistranscriptions.

Try fiddling around leaving out surname if a PoB is a bit unusual - in conjunction with YoB of course.

Failing that leave out names alltogether and plod thru people born in the places you know about with the years of birth known.

Hi Mort

Surname is ABBOTT. I've tried all variations of the name but still nothing appears. I've tried searching their previous address, but it doesn't exist on the 1911 census. The houses either side of the one they lived in exist but not theirs.

Hi

I've had the same problem, looking for someone I know for certain was alive after 1911. I found this

http://www.1911census.co.uk/content/default.aspx?r=24&98

and have come to the conclusion that the lady in question may have been a suffragette supporter.

If you find the people who you think were the next door neighbours and view the image, you'll see (above the image) List ... if you click on that link, you'll see a list of the households in the district.  As least you'll be able to see if your folks were living there and how many were in the household. :)
