New member - researching Haines, Bowley, Lewis, Wilcox & Dorrington
« on: Sunday 27 March 11 22:14 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm a brand new member of this forum [just registered :)] and relatively new to genealogy too.

Since I dipped my toe in the water a couple of months ago, I must admit I've been become addicted.

I'm researching 6 lines altogether - so as you can imagine I've been a busy bunny!

I've managed to get back to 1841 with all generations, but I'm looking to try to get beyond that... but I'm finding it pretty tough so far.

Fathers side: Haines & Phipps (Worcs/Gloucs) & Bowley (Leics).

Mothers side: Lewis (Smethwick), Wilcox (Walsall) & Dorrington (Bham/Coventry).

I'll go into detail under the relevant area sections  I.e: Gloucestershire forum: "Haines & Phipps family"  - do you think is the best way to get help/info?

Thanks
Rachel

Hi Hayley

Welcome to Rootschat.  Lovely to see such enthusiasm from a Newbie.
I hope you are able to find every one you are looking for but if you
have already gone back to 1841, I would say you are doing really well
by yourself.
We also have lots of lovely people on here who will help with your queries.
Putting individual requests on the main forum as well as Counties they
might include is a good idea.
Just to let you know if you need to send private e mails on here to anyone
you have to post at least 3 times before any private ones can be sent.
Non of your families are on my family tree but I am sure someone in the Midlands area might have some of yours on theirs. If you have anything specific just shout and I am sure you will be helped
Have a great time on here

regards Sandymc

Hello, and welcome to RootsChat!

Just to add to what Sandymc has said,

The easiest way to make surname connections with other members is to enter your surname interests
in the Surname Interests Table (SIT), and to check there whether others are researching these names.

This can be found at http://surname.rootschat.com/ , there is a link to it at the top of each Rootschat page.

The more people who enter their surnames, the more chance there will be of making a connection!
