Unfortunately quite often birthdates are not shown in baptisms,a shame as we could all save the money and not buy a certificate, in some cases if you look at how many were baptised in one day I reckon the poor priest must have been rushed off his feet and no time for what he thought to be miner detail.

Anyway Betty I hope it all comes right for you

Happy Easter

Hi LouisaMaud,
I have actually got the letter and cheque ready to send. I decided to apply to the Waltham  Forest registrars office as from experience the area offices are  usually quicker. However, I thought that I could order it by phone, but every time I phoned there was either no reply or engaged. I eventually got a reply yesterday only to be told I would have write. So the letter is now waiting to be posted. What with today and Monday being bank holidays goodness knows how long it will take. I might just as well as got it from Stockport.
In the meantime I have been looking for Annie's family and think that I have found them on the 1881 census when she was 18, If it is them, her father Samuel was born in Wales,I always wondered if my ancestors were Welsh, with Jones being our surname. So I am now hoping that (the West Ham) George Jones is my grandfather despite having decided that he wasn't. He could have lied saying his fathers name was George Jones on his marriage certificate. Did I tell you I live in Wales.
Regards
Betty

Hello again Betty
Let's hope something will be revealled to your advantage that will settle your mind once and for all.

My surname was Jenkins, it was known we had welsh connections but I can't find it, only gone back as far as about 1800, all born in Marylebone or surrounding areas, sometimes things get a little distorted within families, I  have had quite a few which turn out not to be the 100% so I just go with what I find

Take care

Hi Louisa Maud, just to keep you up to date, I still have not received the birth certificate for George Jones, it has been ten days since i sent for it. I have been trying to get them on the phone all morning and only getting the engaged tone. Eventually their phone rang but they never answered, I let it ring until it just stopped ringing.
Will let you know when it comes.
Regards Betty

Hi Louisa Maud,
No it hasn't arrived yet., I am so frustrated, It is over three weeks now since I applied for it.The thing is, they don't answer their phone either, so I can't get to speak to anyone. I sent them an email about ten days ago and they sent back a standard reply saying they were behind but hoped to catch up soon. Yesterday,I phoned their customer service advisor, not a great help there either..
I was actually going to email you today to update you. Will let you know WHEN I receive it.

Regards
Betty

At last the cert has arrived. Trouble is the date of birth is 13th July 1890 not June. However, I am trying to contact the older of my aunts to check with her. Who knows the other aunt may have got it wrong, she certainly had his year of birth wrong. I wonder if she deliberately misled me, maybe she has the original cert even though she told me she hasn't. Oh, well, as this is the only George Jones registered in West Ham at that time it has to be the one.
