Records generally started in 1845 for marriages and 1864 for Births & Deaths, although some church records exist before these dates.

You can check out the GRONI website here or this Family Ulster site may be of help.

Earliest full surviving Census would be 1901 although remnants remain for the 1851 in some areas.

Church records can usually be researched by visiting PRONI or can be ordered in at a local LDS centre throughout the UK and beyond.

Hope you find something helpful here.

A possible link to the ones that remained -

Dr W H Caldwell was the District Coroner for Coleraine through the 1880s & 1890s

Shirley...

Sorry I don't have any more info. I just thought with the same name in the same town there could be some connection.

As I have roots in the Coleraine / Portstewart area, I have a book of newspaper articles from the Coleraine Chronicle in the late 1800s which contains lots of references to local families. There are about 10 articles containing reference to Dr Caldwell, mostly with him attending inquests and such.

The book is called The Flood Tide & can be bought from this website. http://www.impactpublishers.co.uk/catalog/4
