Searching for James GEORGE
« on: Thursday 31 March 11 17:59 BST (UK) »
My ancestor James GEORGE (born 1800-1810) m. Hannah TOMPKINS (b.1815, Ocle Pychard, Herefordshire) in 1833 in Pencombe, Herefordshrie.

1841: age 40, N is written over Y for whether born in county (Herefordshire) (HO107/430/1/4/5)
1851: age 40, born Hereford Laysters (HO107/2040/122/14)
1861: age 50, born Worcestershire Bockleton (RG9/2084/8/10)

I've lost trace of James & his wife after this census, but there is a possible 1871 census for a 64-year old James, living as a servant in Tenbury (though birthplace given as Pencombe Herefordshire). But if that is him, where is his wife Hannah? Note that I've accounted for all their children in 1871, with the exception of two older daughters who were surely married by this time.

I suspect James may be one of the deaths in 1873 in Tenbury reg. district (aged 70).

Also, I've had no success locating a baptism for James - so if anyone could help with that it would be excellent - at the moment all I know is it should have been around 1800-1810 near the Hereford/Worcester border, somewhere near Laysters/Bockleton.

Thanks,
Alexander

Thanks for that. I'm not at all familiar with the area. How can I be sure it's the right one, though? Shame he never gives Hatfield as a place of birth on any census.
