WATSON Family from Therfield

    am hoping someone might be able to provide more information about the Watson's in Therfield.

My ancestor came to Australia in 1852, he was

James Watson
Birth 28 Aug 1827 in Therfield, Hertfordshire, England
Death 15 Feb 1902 in New South Wales, Australia

I think his parents were

William Watson
Birth 1787 in Therfield, Hertfordshire, England
Death  1872

and

Hester Esther Batt
Birth 21 Oct 1787 in Therfield, Hertfordshire, England
Death 1867 in Hertfordshire, England

but not 100% sure.

If anyone has any further information about this family, and in particular the lineage with some older ancestors, would be very grateful. Any general information about this family would also be gratefully accepted.

Parents wedding -
William Watson = Esther Batt 10/11/1812 Therfield

Haven't found William's bp. at Therfield but there is
Esther Batt 21/10/1787 dau. of William Batt & Martha

Then wedding of William Batt = Martha Parmer(sic) 6/11/1784

This is very interesting.

Have had a look at some of the cenuses from England 1841 and upwards, what I think is their family has Mary as being James wife and an Esther Watson living separately.

Do you see anything that confirms Esther aka Hester Esther Batt as being the parents, could they have gotten divorced ?

Any ideas ?

People did not usually divorce in the early 1800's unless they were wealthy.

Looks to me that William Remarried by 1841;

Marriage F/S Pilot;
William WATSON, Fathers name WILLIAM Watson
Mary KING, Fathers name THOMAS King
23 November 1839, Therfield, Hertfordshire
(2 Records on there and I combined info)

Looks like Mary had a couple of Illeg. Children when she Married William.

Eng/ Deaths Burials on F/S Pilot has;
Esther WATSON, Burial 04 October 1837, England, Age 50, Birth 1787

Checking with FreeBMD we have this Death Reg;
ESTHER Watson, Sept 1837, Royston, 6 350
ROYSTON is the Reg District for Therfield on the 1841 Census.

I am just summising here but Ii think that William WATSON Snr may have remarried as I can only find one Child to them William 1787;
