alexander changed his name in the 1891 census to reid he was brought up by his grandparents alexander reid and ann ms sim in elgin morayshire  thanks

Can you clarify exactly what type of lookup you are asking for - do you already have a 1901 census entry?

I notice that the 1891 entry is REED and he was b Elgin

Have you checked Scotlands People for a marriage for him

thank you for your reply i spent friday doun in reg house in edinburgh great please
i looked there and found nothing could not fing him in 1901 c
when his grandmother died he was there and signed it as alex reid
i am wondering if he went to england as his uncle hugh reid wes there i have found a lot out about hugh and his family  he also had a uncle called william who was blind lived in england
 i am hoping someone in england can look up for me.

There are at least 3 English 1901 entries for an Alexander Reid b 1872-76.  Birthplace for each is just Scotland

b 1872 - member of crew - vessel moored in Dorset

b 1874 living in Lambeth London - a David Reid aged 20 in same household - both are boarders

b 1876 - boarder in Barrow in Furness

Another 2 have specific birthplaces in Scotland so I have ruled them out (Glasgow & Hawick)

Nothing under McCook or Reed

With difficulty and possibly a bank loan!!

Seriously - you would have to look at every Alexander Reid marriage on SP and freebmd from 1901 onwards

SP is probably cheaper than buying English marriage certs @ £9.25 a time to establish a fathers name

I have checked London marriages up to 1921 and you can ignore all of the following if you find them on freebmd.  English marriage certs only show fathers names

1906 to Margaret F Hudson - Alex was full age and a Lt Colonel - father Thomas

1907 to Rebecca Bateman - he was 26 a horsekeeper and father was John

1907 to Annie Otten - he was 30 a woodcarver and father was James

1871 has a Joseph McCook aged 24 b Rafford Morayshire working as a farm labourer in Kinloss

Jessie Reid was b 1854 Elgin and the 1881 has a Jessie Reid b 1855 Elgin working as a servant in Elgin
