Royal Flying Corps
« on: Monday 04 April 11 20:23 BST (UK) »
I was hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

My Granddad joined the Royal Flying Corps in WW1, I believe he was underage. I am lucky enough to have a photo of him in his uniform.  However I know that he did get a war pension, but I also know that he used several aliases during his life.

I have searched the ancestry records, but have not found anything. I know a lot of the records were lost in WW2 and I just cannot make head nor tail around the National Archive website. Is there any other avenue I can look at where I might find more information?

Thank you

I am sorry I don't know this, although the photo I have, in which he looks very young. his uniform does not have a wing on it, but talking with my Mum she believes he did become a flying officer.

Thank you Trevor.

His name was Maurice Frederick Perry, b. 1901 in Essex. He may have used the forename Paul or the surname Parry.

I believe his number may have been SF10.

I have uploaded the photograph, he is the one on the right and I now see the wing attatched to the uniform.

Thank you

As previously stated I cannot get my head around using the website, but if I am likely to get something I will persevere.

well i,ve just had a look in tna and so far i can,t find him in rfc officers and looking at the pic he doesn,t look like any officer i,ve ever seen i,m wondering if he was more likely a ground crew erkand if as you say he was prone to call himself whatever he felt like we could have an impossible task finding him so far i,ve tried just using perry as a surname with no first name and he hasn,t shown as mf perry will try parry back soon

Thank you Trevor.

I have searched around the direct link, a bonus, there is a possible match, I know there is no M or MF but there is a brothers initials .... a long story but may be a possible match. With my ancestors anything is possible. And as you say he may never had made officer status, he was pensioned out, I believe due to a back injury, but corisande has suggested that his parents may have bought him out, due to his age. Again this is possible as my G.Grandfather bought his half brother out of the army, as he was too young!

Once again thanks
