I have recently received a request from dincur on anxcestry.com to contact you reference William Probert and Mina Maria Knight. I have these people on my tree and also Mina's great grandparents James Dean and Mary Cooper. James is my 4 times great grandfather born 1772. Hello Cardiff and ryderhouse,

I don't know if you will ever see this, but I am the grand-daughter (well one of them) of William Edward Probert and Minna Maria Knight.  I am the daughter of their youngest child, William Royden Probert.  I am researching the Probert family history as we only got to know about it after my father died.  He kept it totally secret and sounded completely English to us.

I am interested in anything that might explain why William Royden (Roy as a child, Bill as an adult after the war) cut all his ties to his Welsh family, never seeing them again.  I am particularly interested in Minna and how he could have abandoned her so completely from some time during the second world war.

I live in Australia and have only just begun to try and track the Probert family back - and at least know about William Probert's father Richard Probert - coal workers of various kinds, all of them.
