HARRINGTON births
« on: Friday 08 April 11 08:41 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find all the children born to Arthur Benjamin Harrington and Annie Maud Wood.  Arthur and Annie were married in the March quarter of 1881 Camberwell, London Ref: 1d Page 785.  Annie Maude Harrington (Wood) died in 1897.

I have a birth for Arthur Benjamin Harrington Jnr. born 1882 and assume him to be their first born.  Then I have Celia Ada Harrington in the June quarter 1895 in Camberwell.  That's a 13 year gap and I can't find the children born inbetween.  I'm sure in those days there must have been other children.  Celia Ada also turns up as a 5 year old in the 1901 Census with her grandmother Mary Ann English Harrington in her Uncle George Bennetts' house.

I would appreciate any help on this one.

Thanks, Red

Many thanks Valda, that makes three.

Arthur Benjamin Harrington Jnr. born 1882, eight years later ......
Leonard Alfred Harrington born Jun 1890 (sadly it looks like Leonard only lived a few months) and five years later ......
Celia Ada Harrington born June quarter 1895.

One would think there could be more children than that, especially in those times.

There may have been several miscarriages in between. Perhaps Annie's health was not great (what did she die of in 1897?).

Thanks avm228, I have no idea how Annie Maud Harrington died, I have thought it quite possibly could be child birth, she was only 34, born 1863 in Camberwell, London and she didn't stray far from home.

There are loads of Harrington births in Camberwell, London between 1881 when Annie, aged 18, married Arthur Benjamin Harrington and 1897 when she died, but FreeBMD doesn't show who the mother (or father) is.

Hi Red

You can use freebmd to search for both Harrington births and deaths in Camberwell at the same time by holding down the CTRL key as you click on births and deaths when you select the event type.

(Then you can use the census to see which of the surviving children belonged to other families.)

Unfortunately the mothers maiden name is not recorded on the birth index until 1911, so if you really need to know if any of these other children belong to your tree, you will have to purchase the certificate. The GRO no longer offers a reference checking service.
