Janine, I see you are hunting Prince's in Hastings.

I have recently traced one of my ancestors, William Herbert Prince's death certificate - he died as a young man of 32 in 1893 from tuberculosis. He was born in Hillingdon and worked/ lived as a police officer in London, however on his death cert it states that he died at 53 Western Rd. St. Mary Magdalyn, Hastings, England. I do not know why he was in Hastings and had assumed that he just went to stay by the sea during his illness, but the possibility exists that he went to stay with family that I have not yet located.

Anything here that rings a bell?

Rgds

Hi there

Hastings in the mid and late 1800's was famous for its TB Hospital - lots of people came here for treatment and the sea air.

One of my wifes ancestors The Rev Johnathan Eastwood - Clerk in Holy Orders, died aged 40 in the Parish of St Mary Magdalen, St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex. (next street to Western Road)   A plot of ground was purchased in Hastings Cemetery by Mrs Ann Elizabeth Eastwood (nee Dixon)  of Hope Parsonage, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.
Rev Johnathan Eastwood from Eccles in Yks - curate of Ecclesfield, YKS 1854 - 1862  curate of Eckington in Derbyshire. 1862 - 1864 vicar of Hope in Staffordshire.  Author of  "History of Eccelsfield and District" (took 14 years to write) that was published by Bell and Daldy in 1862
