Win7HP-using Aust discs
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 03:10 BST (UK) »
Hi
Looking for advice please.  I have bought a new laptop with Windows 7 HP.  Before I start it up, I'd like some feed back from others in Aust. regarding what discs run on this system.

I realise this is a sort of technical question, but my question relates to use of Australian discs produced by Digger, QFHS, BISA, etc.  Do they run OK on the Win7HP?  Do I need to download/upgrade to a different version of Windows?

I have read some of the questions on the Technical thread, but particularly wanting to hear of experiences had by Aussies users.

The laptop is 4GB - 640 HDD - Windows 7PH and will run Office 2010.

Thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris

According to Digger Support information (link below) it will work with Windows 7 32-bit but not Windows 7 64-bit. You would need to check which you have

http://www.macbeth.com.au/digger/support.html#windows7

With other software I would check their website initially as they often have information regarding Windows 7

Hi Chris,

I was advised by other Rootschatters to get Windows 7 Professional 32 bit if I wanted my disks to work, also my older software, and I can report that I have had no problems.....and I have some rather old software.

Hi,
Thanks Andy and Dee,
Yes, on starting up the laptop I will have to decide between the 32 bit or 64 bit.  After 'googling' and reading up on the pros & cons, I think I'll go the 32 bit.

I guess it's taking the easy way out, but the main thing is to be able to use all my discs without any hassles.  I'm not much of a 'tech head'.   ;D  And I hope BISA will work, as well as some of the older 'Proformat' discs !!    :-\

I appreciate your advice.
Cheers, Chris.

Chris
I see you're in S.A.
Why don't you ring Goulds who use QFHSDatasearch on some of their discs - Alan P. should be able to tell you whether your Windows 7 can read QFHS discs.  I'd be surprised if it can't.
If you don't get any joy from Goulds, PM me and I'll ask our Tech guru at QFHS

Hi Dawn,
I've checked the Gould site, and you can run the 64, but you need to download a Virtual PC, as shown in Andy's  link to Macbeth / Digger, however, the 32 bit is straight forward.  And they gave a list of products that run safely with Windows 7 variants.

But a good idea    8)  why didn't I think of that    ::)   I will give them a ring on Monday and ask some specific questions from Alan P.

Cheers, Chris.

And you can tell him I suggested you ring him if you like.
He'll probably mentally chastise me, though that might be against his religion!

And if he can't tell you, remember to PM me so I can ask the system's designer.

Hi Dawn,

I've rung Gould and they tell me the Digger / Macbeth discs are definitely Ok on the Win 7 using 32 bit.
I'm sending a quick PM as well.

Thanks, Chris.
