John Griffiths family Oswestry 1784-1790
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 15:54 BST (UK) »
I am interested in any information on the family of John Griffiths of Treflach and Jane his wife. They had four sons Joseph, Job, Thomas and George ( I have dates of birth and christenings for all four boys between 1784 and 1790)
Any information on the family would be welcome especially
What was Jane's maiden name?
When did John and Jane marry?
Did John die in Treflach?
Did Jane die in Treflach?
Where were John and Jane from?
What was John's occupation?
What happened to any of the four sons?
Regards
Tony

Hi Tony

Is this the first post on this thread? I seem to recall posting some info on a similar thread a few months ago to someone.

If not, I think I may have a few answers?

Regards
Geoff

Hi Tony

I found my notes.

I have found all the info you have, in the SPR (Oswestry).

Entries for John G don't give the occupation as with some others, so difficult to tie in some facts and I wasn't able to find the marriage details to Jane. There are 4 Jane's who married a John Griffiths around 1780(ish) - Brown, Minshale, Thomson and Scanfield, all within about 10 miles or so.

There is an entry for Jane Griffiths who was buried on 17 Dec 1801, Trefeclawdd, P. of Oswestry, very close to Treflach.

There is a marriage entry for a John Griffiths married Mary Lloyd of Oswestry, 28 Jan 1805.

Hope this is of some help for now.

Regards
Geoff

Hi Geoff
Thanks for the information. Every little helps, the four marriages at least are a starting point to search is it possible you can you tell me the parishes and dates so I can get copies of the entries it might give parish of the groom.

Hi Tony

Sorry, I meant the info you found was in the SPR, not the info about the possible spouses (except the entries for the burial and the marriage, they are SPR entries), I got that info from the IGI and Family Search sites, however, here they are:

Minshale, 19 Aug 1781, Whitchurch
Thomson, 26 Aug 1781, Stoke-upon-Tern
Scanfield 4 May 1779, Montford.

I checked a couple of other close parishes in the SPR and found the following, if any use:

Llanymynech -
10 Oct 1779 Anne d. of John Griffiths & Jane, bap.
16 Nov 1785 Samuel s. John Griffiths of Llwyntidman, lab. (a pauper) & Jane (formely Williams of Melverley), bap. I've checked the Melverley records and nothing came up.
18 July 1788 Richard s. of John Griffiths of Llwyntidman, lab. (a pauper) & Jane (formely Williams of Melverley), bap.
11 July 1790 Jane Griffiths w. of John Griffiths (pauper), aged 49, bur.

Probably stabs in the dark, but possibly worth a look if you are in the area.

I found a couple of submitted only entries for Job, a marriage and and a son, I'll check the SPR when I get chance.

Thanks again Geoff
I think it's fairly certain this is the Job son of John and Jane Griffiths of Treflach have to see if he is still alive in 1841.
I know that Joseph became a Minister and is my ancestor and have burials for Thomas and I think George(Collier at Cynetha Collery who died at age 19).
Once again my thanks.
