Axton
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 21:24 BST (UK) »
Can someone please tell me which Parish Axton comes under? I am trying to trace baptism for my 5Xgreat grandfather THOMAS BLOOR b 1756c. His marriage to Mary Edwards of Llanasa in 1780 had him down of Whitford Parish, but I can't find him there. He is not in Llanasa Parish either. I'm just trying to work out which other Parish Records to look in for around that area.
Kind Regards
Nerys

According to Genuki, there was a township of Axtyn in the parish of Llanasa - could this be the same place?

Hi Nerys,

You will probably find Axton under the parish of Holywell, although Axton is near to Llanasa, My grandfather was born in Axton, on his birth cert, in was in the Parish of Holywell.

Axton and Axtyn are one and the same and is in the Parish of Llanasa, not Holywell. There's another large parish, namely Whitford, between the parishes of Llanasa and Holywell.

Zoe,
I'm surprised by what you say. What date was your Grandfather born? Did you get the certificate from GRO or from the local register office? What address is given?

Do you have the baptisms of Thomas and Mary's children. They are shown in the Newmarket (now known as Trelawnyd) Parish Registers. Some give the family's abode as Whitford, but one gives it as Plas Captain. This farm is in the parish of Whitford, but geographically closer to Newmarket, but perhaps you know this already.

By the way, where did the reference to Axton come from?

Have looked in the Holywell St James baptisms anyway just incase, no trace of any Bloors during that period.

Thank you for all the replies.
We are struggling with these Bloors. If possible Tecwyn, could you please list the children of Thomas Bloor and Mary Edwards from the Newmarket records. We have an inkling that the Plas Captain William Bloor is connected, but we haven't been able to confirm yet. The children we know belong to Thomas and Mary are
Mary b 1782 Whitford
Sarah b 1785 ?
Joseph b 1787   - My connection
Martha b 1789

We have no idea where Thomas was born, so have been unable to go further back on his line. We suspect he had a brother John who married a Martha Williams, this is where the Axton connection comes as they were living there from 1802-1812 and just thought it could be worth looking into. No Thomas Bloor baptisms in Whitford or Llanasa, so we're just clutching at straws at the surrounding Parishes really. My mam is hopefully going to visit the Ruthin archives soon. These Bloors are so frustrating, but I'm told there's not actually too many of them around the areas I'm currently looking.
Kind regards
Nerys

Nerys,
The Newmarket baptisms, same 4 names as you have:

Mary Bloor bapt; 12/01/1781 abode Whitford
Sarah Bloor bapt; 22/02/2785 (born 30/01) abode Whitford
Joseph Bloore bapt; 11/12/1787 no abode
Marth Bloor bapt; 17/05/1790 abode Plas Capten

Mary shows father Thomas & mother Mary. The other three show mother Mary (Edwards)

There's also a curious baptism: Jane Bloor, 23/04/1792, father "J" mother Mary (Edwards) no abode. I wonder whether the original was of such poor condition that a "T" was transcribed as a "J".

Also a later generation, c1809, parents William and Sarah Bloor, Plas Capten.
