I do hope he's the brother of my ancestor. This is the first time in my research I've had anything so interesting

I was surprised to find his picture too.  Chap on hubby's tree hit Queen Victoria and was deported - but I've not found his pic!
Did you see my earlier reply about the wedding?

Yes I did get your message about the wedding of JJ. Looking at James the sheep stealer if he was 22 in 1864 then obviously born 1841 so a year late for the 1841 census. Must check 1851. Looking at the court record there's mention of Park y rose but put that the Welsh way and it becomes parc y rhos and bingo ! Nothing of that name at Llansawel on a modern OS map but there's an old maps web site and in 1874 there's a parc y rhos at Llansawel.
Also there's what looks like a reference to Leicester prison so I have e mailed Leics. records to see what they have.

think your next step should be the marriage cert for Jonathan as you can't be sure of his father without it. As he has a son called Timothy, he may be the son of Timothy the cooper. There is no son called Joseph on the census, but that doesn't mean there wasn't one who died young.

I have Jonathan Jonathan in my tree.  His daughter  Catherine Jonathan (b1867) married my wife's Great grandfather Samuel Andrews  (b1865) in 1889.

Jonathan was a farm labourer in the 1841 & 1851 census but was a coal miner in the 1861 census living at 30 Cardiff Road, Aberdare.  He married Ada Davies in the 4th quarter of 1861 and as far as I can see from the census returns, they had 6 children: Ann (b1862), Timothy (b1864), Catherine (b1867), Sarah (b1868), Elizabeth (b1870) and Mary (b1876).

His wife Ada died in 1892 and in the 1901 census he was living with his daughter Sarah and her family ay 8 School Street, Ystradyfowg. He died in 1910.

Unfortunately I have not been able to find is parents or any siblings.
