2 families at same street/address?
« on: Sunday 10 April 11 22:41 BST (UK) »
Hi There

Wonder if anyone can help me solve this please

I have Been looking at baptism records for my Collins family and came up with something i can not answer.

Jeremiah&Ann collins had 3 children
Thomas 1825
Margaret 1827 (died 6 months later :-( )
Henry1831

Addresses on baptism records George yard/Kent Street Southwark

Daniel&Mary had 7 children

Caroline 1821
Daniel 1824
Elizabeth&Henry -Twins 1833
John 1836
Jane 1838
Ann 1843

Addresses on baptism record Kent street southwark

Could these be the same family or the same person Daniel/Jeremiah?

Found the 1841 census with the Daniel&Mary family and it shows a this Collins on there?
Also says Daniel was born in Surrey abt 1796..can not find this birth record but found one for Jeremiah in 1798?
I am really stuck here! I hope someone can shed some light on this for me
Thanks and look forward to all the help I can get.

I wouldn't assume they are the same couple because the address is the same.  It's possible that they are connected though, Daniel and Jeremiah could be brothers or cousins.

Have you tried finding them further on in the census or looking for marriage/burial records?

I wouldn't think they are the same family as both parents names are different and looking at the dates of the children that would mean they switched them every time they baptised a child.  More likely as Jeuel said they were brothers.

Another reason is that both families have children called Henry. Unless the Henry born 1831 died, they are unlikely to have called another child born in 1833 the same name.

they are definately 2 separate families

You seem to have taken the baptism dates as the birth dates for the children -and they are not the same

You have Ann daughter of Daniel and Mary Collins as b. 1843 - yet she appears as 6mth old on 1841 census - she was baptised in 1843

St mary newington
Ann Collins
born 22 oct 1840
baptised Jun 4 1843
Parents Daniel & mary Collins
Kent St
occ labourer

Same info. as above also there's a marriage for Daniel  to Mary Ann Hale 1820.
Could Jeremiah & Ann/Mary have had another child, there's an Ann Cox married to Thomas Cox in 1841 with Henry Collins/18;William Collins/12 & Henry Collins/10 living in Southwark.Jeremiah may have died as I can't find him on the census & Ann remarried.
There are 3 Jemermiah Collins deaths 1828-38 Southwark but no ages given.
Agree with the others 2 different families.
