Help Decipher Discharge paper
« on: Tuesday 12 April 11 20:58 BST (UK) »
My father joined the South Wales Borderers 3rd Battalion in Feb 1918.  He then went to France later in 1918.  However the 3rd Battalion were the training and reserve battalion which did not serve abroad.  I don't know which battalion he left with/joined.

There is some hand writing on the discharge section which I can't decipher, it looks like "Para Bqn (    ) KR or RR".  I am hoping it will give an indication of his battalion/unit, but it may be some general information.  I thought if it were RR it would be Rest & Recperation?  Any help appreciated.

Regards

Blue Chevrons were small woven blue chevrons . worn on the right tunic sleeve - each one related to a calender year overseas i.e. one each for 1915, 16, 17, 18 - with a red one for 1914 in the British Army. So this indicates your relative had two years overseas;

Hi Gortonboy

Thanks so much for a quick and full explanation.  Ah well will now have to wait for a visit to Kew at some time to see if the medal rolls will give his battalion.

Thanks again really appreciate.
