Thanks again! I've got the Frances Collins parish registers of Kirkburton vol2 (that's the one with the pedigrees and other family information) on order from the British Library.

Also have the will summary of Robert Bilcliffe from another source. Your last gem is a new one to me though! Missed that!

Rotherham Registers  start 1542 -finish 1563 transcribed  for baptisms and  start years later on Hugh Wallis IGI website and Genuki Rotherham

I'm wondering Why. (lost! Missing. Fire etc.?)

Well Best!! I can do for you! as I'm North in West Yorkshire and Rotherham is quite a way from me! with no direct bus link! as I have a free bus pass after 9.30 am start time! but is 8 bus rides with 5 hours traveling time around trip without connection times as well of buses also as bus do! go around the houses and call at every village enroute. This would leave me no time to look up the register.

The bits in between the transcriptions on Genuki and the IGI records do exist. They can be seen on microfiche at Sheffield Archives, hence my original request!
They don't seem to have been filmed, and there are a lot of gaps. The Mormons have the fiche too.

As ever, thanks for your interest and help.

Hi Anne

I have been to Rotherham and had look at through 1560 to 1590. baptisms in the PR's  All Staints. They are hard to read or decipher first! but what is clear is each entry just gives the person being baptised and date meaning not parents or just  fathers name or abode etc similar to the Genuki transcriptions up to 1563
They started giving a parent about 1606/7 March to April year
Therefore I did not bother looking at them as there were other Bilcliffe male (William) marriages as well as Robert!

Hi Dobby

Thanks so much for trying, especially as you said Rotherham wasn't the easiest place for you to get to!

You're a star!

Thank You in around about way!

I had booked a film reader at 1 am at the archives and arrived at 12.30 by bus so had time to kill.
I called at a charity shop outside the achives looking at nik knacks etc as one does!  ;D and found a pair of men clarks shoes size 12 that retail for £70 to £80 new and bought them for only £8.50p  and never used. (hard to find this size as most shops only go up to size 11 to which I do  fit but are tight-ish at first!)

Good day out and ride on a train as well

plus another happy punter.
